What is Broadway Live Island?
A community of theatre lovers, artists, actors, writers within the world of Second Life.

What is Second Life?
Similar to the original city-building game SimCity, Second Life is a virtual 3-D world where users create and dress up characters, buy property and interact with other players -- like a parallel universe that exists on the Internet. But what separates it is that (unlike MySpace, etc) they can have real conversations in real time (not just a posting system) about any topic and along the way they receive exposure to any content that a property owner puts there.

Is this a game?
This is real virtual life! Although some think of this as a "video game" it is certainly much more than just that. It is a sense of community and a place to interact with others in an environment devoted to live theatre. Visit us and ask any of the residents. Only you can decide for yourself.

So it is just a few random people signing up for this?
No! A number of real-world companies (Sears, IBM, American Apparel, Sony BMG, Circuit City) have entered SL in the past few months. Retailers are determined not to miss what could be a chance to attract new customers and spread their brands.
"I think any retailer worth their salt wants to offer their products in the place and in the way that the consumer wants to buy it," said Danny Edsall, worldwide solution executive in merchandising and supply chain at IBM.
"In 1999, for those who actually had the vision, that was on the Web. In the year 2007, maybe that's in Second Life or another 3-D world," he said.
